Halloween Table Runner - children's art inspired Part 2

8/30/2017

Since I'm working after 9pm, i can't run down to the copy store. I will use my scanner and Photoshop CC to get my childhood art into my computer.

Believe me, its much easier to just blow up the painting on a copy machine!

My artwork is longer than my scanner bed, so I scanned it in two sections.
  • I imported the images into Photoshop (or use your favorite image manipulation software) and layered the images so they line up. I merged the images together into one image.
  • Next I added the layer Threshold which changed my image to black and white. This gave me a high contrast so I can see the outlines of each character.
  • I resized the image to as close to my desired size of 15" x 38". Mine was a bit shy of 38" but I'm still very happy.
  • Print out and cut out your images. *** Remember to add 1/4" seam allowance for the background piece of fabric*** The little images will become applique templates so they won't need a seam allowance.

Next post will be the fabrics chosen for this piece inspired by a child's artwork. Thank you for stopping by!

Hello and welcome to SYNAPOP! I am an intermedia artist a.k.a. mixed media artist. That means I use whatever is needed to create my art. My focus is determined by what is going on in life...so one day it will be glass shards sculpted with wire, weaving with shoelaces and silk scraps, or manipulating digital photograghs. I love being creative and talking about it! It was so very nice to meet you, please visit here again.
